Several Coon Rapids parks have been renovated over the last several years thanks to a Park Bond approved by voters in Coon Rapids in November, 2013. $17.4 million was invested to enhance the quality in several of the following parks:
Riverwind Park - 11708 Bittersweet St. (also has Riverwind Community Building which is available for rent for small parties and gatherings)
Woodcrest Park - 901 103rd Ave. - portions of this park's trail system tie in to a new 21-hole disc golf course, a partnership between the City and the MN Disc Golf Association. Volunteers worked with City staff to build the course which is now payable, however, it will still take several years to complete the entire course.
Lions Coon Creek Park - 1664 119th Ave.
This park renovation is taking place in 2019. The park will be completely closed in 2019, including all picnic shelters, trails and the bridge to access the park. The existing parking lot will remain open, but everything else in the park, including the bridge and the trails on the north side of the creek will be closed. All picnic shelters will also be closed and unavailable for shelter reservations. It is suggested to reserve picnic shelters in Crooked Lake Park instead.
The City has invested in the trail system over the years and has a fully integrated system of connections that can take you from one end of the city to another! The trail system features miles of fully-paved trails through beautiful natural areas and connections within busier parts of the city.
